Stories, Sessions, and the Beauty of Real Life
Why Your Baby’s First Weeks Deserve More Than a Phone Photo
They grow so fast. You hear it all the time, but when your baby is finally in your arms… you feel it.
And while your phone is full of blurry snaps and sleepy cuddles, there's something deeply powerful about intentionally capturing this once-in-a-lifetime moment.
As a mum of two and a professional newborn photographer, I know how chaotic and precious those first weeks are. That’s why I bring the studio to you. I come fully equipped with calming wraps, soft textures, outfit choices, and even a backup camera — so no matter what, your session is smooth, relaxed, and safe.
I’m also fully trained in newborn handling and safety. Every pose and prop is thoughtfully chosen with your baby’s comfort in mind.
You only get this moment once. Let’s capture the tiny toes, sleepy smiles, and the way they fit so perfectly in your arms — before the next chapter begins.
When Should You Book Your Newborn Session?
There’s something so surreal about those first few weeks with your baby.
The tiny fingers.
The sleepy cuddles.
The little stretches and newborn sounds you never want to forget.
And before you know it, they’ve already changed.
One of the most common questions I get from expecting mums is:
“When should I actually book my newborn session?”
The short answer?
During your pregnancy.
The Best Time to Book
I recommend booking your newborn session while you’re still pregnant — ideally during your second or early third trimester.
Why?
Because newborn sessions are best photographed within the first 5–14 days after birth.
During this stage, babies are:
extra sleepy
naturally curled
easier to gently settle into those beautiful snuggly poses
After those first couple of weeks, babies usually become more alert and stretched out, which can make sessions a little less predictable — although still absolutely beautiful.
Booking ahead also means you’re guaranteed a place in my calendar around your due date.
But What If Baby Arrives Early or Late?
Don’t stress — newborn photography is one of the only session types that stays flexible.
Once your baby arrives, we simply adjust your session date accordingly.
I only take a limited number of newborn bookings each month so I can allow room for babies arriving on their own timeline.
In-Home Newborn Sessions
One of the things my families love most is that I come to you.
There’s no rushing out the door with a newborn, no packing the entire nursery into the car, and no pressure to have a “perfect” home.
My in-home newborn sessions are designed to feel calm, relaxed, and natural.
I bring everything needed for your session, while keeping your baby safe, comfortable, and gently guided throughout the experience.
The focus is always on connection:
cuddles with mum
tiny details
genuine emotion
the feeling of this season of life
What If My Baby Doesn’t Sleep?
This is probably the biggest worry new parents have — and honestly, completely normal.
Years of photographing newborns has taught me that babies lead the session.
Some sleep deeply.
Some want extra cuddles.
Some simply want to be held the entire time.
And that’s okay.
Beautiful newborn galleries don’t come from “perfect” babies.
They come from real connection.
My Biggest Advice?
Don’t wait until baby arrives to start looking for your photographer.
Those newborn weeks pass in such a blur, and having your session organised before birth makes everything feel far less overwhelming once your little one is here.
These photographs become part of your family’s story.
The tiny details fade far too quickly — but your memories don’t have to.
If you’re currently expecting and would love to capture this season in a relaxed, natural way, I’d absolutely love to hear from you.
